Close to the event
On our travels through New Zealand we came to Taupo on a weekend at the beginning of March. Little did we know that this was the weekend of the famous Ironman in Taupo and we found out that this is not a good time to find somewhere to stay, if you haven’t pre-booked. We had to look for taupo accommodation most of the day, but eventually we found a little motel, that was close to town and fitted our budget. It was perfect for us as we were able to cater for ourselves to keep the cost down. We were stoked to be able to experience this world class event up close.
